Olsen Given Player of the Year

Chicago Bears tight end Greg Olsen recently was given the award of Bears Player of the Year at the 21st Annual Comcast SportsNet Sports Awards in Chicago. He was honored along with other players from Chicago teams like White Sox’s John Danks, Cubs’ Reed Johnson, Bulls’ Drew Gooden, Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane and Fire’s Brian McBride.

Olsen said at the ceremony, “This is a great honor for me to be here tonight to accept this award. I’m very fortunate to play in Chicago. It’s a great city to be an athlete. They treat us really well. The Bears thankfully drafted me when they did. I couldn’t be happier. My teammates and coaches have been great to me, and hopefully I’ll be here for a while.”

Olsen finished the 2008 season with 54 receptions, making him the highest since legendary Bear Mike Ditka tallied 75 over 40 years ago in 1964. He also had five touchdown catches. Olsen came to the Bears in the 2007 NFL Draft, where he was their first round draft pick. While other players’ fate may be up for debate in Chicago, it doesn’t seem that anyone is taking Olsen’s place any time soon. See him play next season with Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.com.
