Favre’s Retirement Could Affect Bears

Analysts are saying that the retirement of veteran quarterback Brett Favre could actually hurt the Chicago Bears this offseason. Why? The Bears had already expressed interest in adding a quarterback this offseason, most likely in free agency. Favre spent the last season at the helm of the New York Jets, and they dropped now Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington to get him. The loss of Favre means the Jets are now in hot pursuit of a starting quarterback, adding competition to the quarterback search. They could be looking at Byron Leftwich, who has already expressed interest in Chicago.

Another interesting development about Favre’s retirement is the permanence of it. He made practically every new source’s front page last year when he announced his retirement from the Green Bay Packers. Just a few months later, Favre was unhappy with his decision and wanted back. With Green Bay ready to move on, he went to the Jets. He may decide to return again, and he may be looking at the division he built his career in: the NFC North.
