Angelo Opens Up

At this point in the offseason, Chicago Bears fans have many questions for general manager Jerry Angelo. Senior Bears writer Larry Mayer got the chance many Bears fans wanted, which was to sit down with Angelo and ask him frank questions about his offseason roster choices. After he commented on why he didn’t chase after quarterback Matt Cassel, wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh and safety Brian Dawkins, Angelo addressed his plan for the wide receiver position.

Angelo said, “Naturally, we’re going to look at that real hard, in all likelihood in the draft. We’re not looking for backup wide receivers. What we want are potentially starting wide receivers. We have a nucleus of receivers that we feel good about in terms of twos, threes, fours and fives, and if we carried six, a sixth receiver. Part of that ties into special teams. What we’re looking at is the top of the wide receiver position. Where does that come from? It comes with a premium receiver in free agency if there’s one out there and/or in the draft.”

The comments add fuel to the fire that Angelo will be using the Bears’ first round draft pick on a top wide receiver. These comments come after the Bears spent time scouting young talent at the NFL Scouting Combine. See next year’s new players with Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.com.
