As the Chicago Bears locked in running back Kevin Jones yesterday, the ultimate Bears running back, Walter Payton, was featured on the NFL Classic Games series on the NFL Network. The game on the NFL Network was a 1985 game against none other than the Bears’ rival Green Bay Packers. During that game, Payton had 192 rushing yards and gave the Bears their winning touchdown in the fourth quarter. The Bears took the game 16-10. Payton showed why he would be a shoe-in Hall of Famer when he had an incredibly game despite the Packers’ determination to trip him up.
In true Payton fashion, after the game he said, “I wasn’t the star of this show. This team is the star. Put the spotlight on the Chicago Bears. This was as intense a game as we’ve ever had against them, in a way. I couldn’t say what their motivation was today, but ours was that we’re a pretty good football team who’s not supposed to lose to them.”
That year’s Chicago Bears featured some of the most memorable Bears in history like coach Mike Ditka, defensive tackle Dan Hampton, quarterback Jim McMahon and William “Refrigerator” Perry. See their legacy played out with Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.com.
