Shaffer Joins Bears’ Roster

The Chicago Bears have added depth in the tackle position by signing Kevin Shaffer, who comes from the same team that signed former Bears tackle John St. Clair, the Cleveland Browns. He has been a starter for the past three seasons with the Browns, most at right tackle and some at left tackle.

He commented on the deal, saying, “I talked to a lot of people, and from everybody I talked to, I didn’t hear one negative thing about Chicago and the Bears. Then I prayed about it. … I just got to the point that it was time to go make a deal with Chicago.” He later talked about his chance of starting and said, “But I know I have to go in there and compete. They don’t know me at all. It’s fair for me to have to come in and show what I can do. I just hope to win the job.”

The deal he signed with the Bears is worth $8 million over three years with $2 million in guaranteed money. He will be competing with Frank Omilyale for the starting position, and the Bears could also add another tackle through the draft. Get your Chicago Bears tickets at StubHub.com.
