Pro Days Bring Clarity to Draft Choices

The Chicago Bears got their first chance to take a close look at the draft prospects at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis in February, and since then the Bears’ scouts have been attending numerous Pro Days held at various colleges around the nation.

Coach Lovie Smith sees these Pro Day workouts as key to the Bears’ draft day decisions. He said, “I believe in the measurable. You can have a good player who can go to the NFL, and it catches up with him a little bit if he doesn’t have the type of speed and agility you’re looking for. We’re looking for athletic guys. We don’t put a premium on size. We put a premium on quickness, speed and agility. Most teams do that. But I’ve found that if you get a guy that’s willing to learn, with a great attitude and ability, you have a chance if you teach him and coach him the right way.”

There are a slew of tests conducted during the Pro Days, including 10-, 20- and 40-yard dashes, shuttle run, position drills, broad jump and more. The Bears’ scouts are one of many at the Pro Days, as scouts from many NFL teams show up. See all of the new players with Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.com.
