Cutler Ignites Talk of QB Importance

The Chicago Bears are excited about starting this year with new quarterback Jay Cutler, but it isn’t just in Chicago that the excitement is staying. The Bears’ addition has ignited talk about the importance of having a franchise quarterback, which the Bears have labeled Cutler as.  Many other teams use their first round draft pick in the hope of landing a franchise quarterback, but few have the chance to grab a young proven quarterback like Cutler.

Chicago hasn’t normally been a team that based its team around a quarterback. General manager Jerry Angelo said, “We’ve done a pretty good job here in Chicago of playing around the quarterback. To get to the Super Bowl in (the) ‘06 (season) without a marquee quarterback - and no disrespect to the contributions Rex (Grossman) made - I think that’s pretty good.”

Well now, the Bears have a leg up on other teams in their division who don’t have a tried-and-true quarterback. The addition of Cutler may just be the final piece of the puzzle that makes the Bears top contenders not only in the NFC North but also in the league as a whole.
