Grossman Signed by Texans

Rex Grossman may have had more than a few Bears fans against him, but he seems to have found some friends in Texas. Grossman, who was an unrestricted free agent, has been signed to a one-year contract with the Houston Texans. He will get paid the minimum for a seven year veteran, which is $620,000. The Texans are not likely to look at Grossman as their starter since they already have Matt Schaub at quarterback. They have also signed Dan Orlovsky from the Detroit Lions for more depth at quarterback. Grossman will likely be fighting Orlovsky for the backup position.

The Bears had high hopes when they picked up Grossman in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft. That first year, he only played three games. He was made the starter the next season, but a knee injury took him out partway through the season. He broke his ankle in 2005’s preseason, leading to him missing most of the season. In 2006, he started every game, ending with a rating of 73.9 and helping the Bears make it to the Super Bowl. His performance at said Super Bowl, however, left many fans unhappy. He finally lost his starting job to Kyle Orton in 2008, which was the beginning of the end for Grossman in Chicago.
