Orton Picked as Denver’s Starter

Kyle Orton may have been sad to leave the Chicago Bears when he became part of the Bears’ trade for new quarterback Jay Cutler, but he seems to be doing just fine now. Over the weekend, Orton got the nod as the Denver Broncos starting quarterback for the 2009 season. It was between him and Chris Simms, and head coach Josh McDaniels decided to go with Orton.

McDaniels said, “There’s a lot of difficult aspects about what we ask our quarterback to do in our offense and Kyle has really grasped some of them more quickly than Chris did. I just think it puts them in a little bit of a pressure situation where now one of them has it and has to keep it and the other one has to get it. They’re still going to compete with each other and I expect the competition to be the same that it’s been. They both have great attitudes and know that nothing’s determined in June.”

One of the reasons the Bears landed Cutler is because Denver liked Orton over some of the other players offered them in trades with other teams. See Cutler play this season by getting Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.
