Garza Gives Back to Hometown

Even with their hectic training schedule, members of the Chicago Bears still find time to give back to the Chicago community and their hometown communities. Offensive lineman Robert Garza recently traveled to his home state of Texas to host a football camp for area youths. The camp was set for kids between the ages of seven and 14 and was very popular with area children.

Garza said of the camp, “It’s always great to have the opportunity to give back and help the community,” Garza said. “It’s really fun to some of the same kids the last couple of years and see how they’ve got better. There are also a lot of new kids and everyone is having a good time and that’s the important thing.”

The kids also took the opportunity to ask Garza questions many other fans are probably wondering. Garza said they asked questions, “Like who is the toughest player I’ve guarded or the best and worst games I’ve been in. It’s really important for me to give back because I tell them I ate the same food as them, grew up in the same town as they did, so it can happen.”

Garza helped with area coaches to teach the children different football positions and techniques. Of course, Garza would be the most helpful with those looking to excel on the offensive line. In the last three seasons with the Bears, Garza has started every regular season game. He was also part of the Bears team that went to the Super Bowl after the 2006 season.
