The postponing of wide receiver Plaxico Burress’ trial because of gun charges may have nixed his chances of being picked up before the season starts. The Bears were one of the teams interested in Burress before the postponement, but their interest in the receiver seems to have waned since then. The Chicago team now seems comfortable with their current wide receiver corps.
One player that doesn’t seem surprised by their lack of movement on Burress is linebacker Brian Urlacher. He said, “I was surprised when I heard they were going after him at all because as a player, I [know there will be] some type of suspension… My first thought with [Burress] was, would he even be able to play this year? You have to wonder how long you’re going to have him or when he’s going to be available [But] he’s a great receiver [and] I would have been open to it.”
The Bears are still holding up Devin Hester as their number one receiver for the 2009 season. He will have a top-notch quarterback, Jay Cutler, throwing to him, which may be just the addition the Bears need. Don’t miss a moment and get your Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.
