Last season was Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte’s rookie season, and he showed himself a promising talent for the Bears. His stats last season may have impressed everyone in Chicago, but it also raised the bar for expectations for his sophomore season.
One person with high hopes for Forte this season is running back coach Tim Spencer. Spencer reflected on Forte’s rookie season and said, “He’s a smart young player who had been privy to a lot of different offenses, so he had a good grasp of some of the things we were trying to do. He has great talent and he was very prepared. He learned the terminology and he went out and was able to be himself because he knew what he was doing.”
Spencer also predicted another top season for Forte in 2009, but he also had a plan to keep the running back healthy in order to have him available for the entire season. Last season, Forte started every single game and finished with 316 carries, 1,238 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdown as well as 63 receptions 477 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.
