The entire NFL is still reeling from the loss of former Titans’ quarterback Steve McNair, who police ruled was shot by his girlfriend before she shot herself. Many in the league were touched by the life of McNair, including new Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. Cutler had been friends with McNair since McNair helped him prepare for the Senior Bowl before Cutler was drafted.
Cutler talked about his time training with McNair and the years since as the two have remained close. Cutler had talked to the former star just two weeks before his death. Cutler reflected on McNair’s life and said, “Mac was a great guy; he took time out for everybody. I always remember being out with him, and I’ve never seen him say no to a picture or an autograph. He was a guy that was always there for somebody, always there to lend a hand. It’s a shame, at 36-years old to have your life taken away from you. It’s sad.”
Cutler will be one of many stars who travel to Mississippi for McNair’s funeral. McNair left a lasting legacy on the quarterback position and many quarterbacks still try to emulate style.
Be there to see Cutler this season with Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.
