Ogunleye Reflects on McNair’s Life and Death

Quarterback Jay Cutler isn’t the only Chicago Bear who was impacted by quarterback Steve McNair, who died last week from what police ruled a murder suicide with his 20-year-old girlfriend as the trigger woman. The circumstances surrounding the death of the married father of four has caused a stir in the sports community and beyond.

Defensive end Adewale Ogunleye respected McNair, but said that everyone should learn something from his death. Ogunleye said, “It should be a wake-up call to everybody, not just athletes. I’m broader in the fact that I know that we’re only human. I don’t know the circumstances with (McNair), but I’ve got people I know that are not athletes who live lifestyles that most of our society would not deem appropriate. We’re on a pedestal and we’re seen in a different light. But you guys know we put our shoes on the same way, think the same way. Life is not a game. Football is a game. You can’t expect a guy to make pinpoint decision the way he would as a quarterback. I’m not condoning anything but at the end of the day, he’s a human being.”

McNair will always be remembered as a great man by countless people, including many Bears players. See them this season with Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.
