Before the start of the season on September 13 against the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Bears-and all the other NFL Teams-must cut their roster to 53 players. The first deadline came today, with the teams having to drop their rosters down to 75. To get to those numbers, the Bears chose to drop defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek, who suffered a knee injury that took him out for the whole season. Along with Dvoracek, the Bears cut wide receiver John Broussard, punter Richmond McGee and long snapper J.J. Milan. Dvoracek has had multiple season-ending injuries during his time with the Bears.
Sunday night’s game against the Denver Broncos was the chance for many players to prove that they deserved a spot on the 53-man roster. Some players who are on the edge are wide receiver Devin Aromashodu and free safety Kevin Payne. Against Denver, Aromashodu had two catches for eight yards. In that same game, Payne led the team in tackles with five. Their performance could put them in the safe zone, but no one will know until that final roster is announced.
