Bears Win in Last Game Before Green Bay

Last night’s game against the Cleveland Browns may not have meant much in the terms of bragging rights, but it did show that some players deserve a secure spot on the Chicago Bears’ 53-man roster. The Bears won the game at Soldier Field 26-23. Many of the starters didn’t make it out on the field as they are resting up for their first regular season game against their storied rivals, the Green Bay Packers.

Coach Lovie Smith said of the game, “Whenever you can win a football game, I think that’s big. But everything we’ve done so far is to prepare ourselves for this big one coming up against our rival up north, and we’ll be ready.”

Offensive coordinator Ron Turner used the game to get a final look at some of his new players. He noticed the skill of rookie receiver Johnny Knox and said, “I thought he did some good things. We know he has excellent speed and he’s played with that kind of speed since the day he got here. A lot of guys have great timed speed, but they don’t necessarily play that way. We noticed the first day he showed up here that he played that fast. He’s still got a long way to go and he’s got a lot of work to do, but there’s no substitute for that speed.”
