Bears fans were still reeling from the 21-15 loss to the Green Bay Packers when they got the news that the loss wasn’t the worst of it. On Monday, linebacker Brian Urlacher announced that the wrist injury he suffered during the game requires surgery and he would be out for the whole season. The loss will be felt tremendously by the entire Bears defense, and Hunter Hillenmeyer came in the game to replace him during the Green Bay game.
Adewale Ogunleye said, “It was tough, but as you can see, we responded really well. My hat goes off to Hunter. He came in and really played that position well.”
Fellow linebacker Lance Briggs used the situation as an example of the fleeting nature of a football career. He said, “You’ve got to understand, football is not for long. Anything can happen any day.”
All is not yet lost, though, as the Bears have already signed linebacker Tim Shaw. There was another rumor they were looking at Derrick Brooks, but reports are the Bears are looking for younger talent. Urlacher has played 10 years for the Bears and has six Pro Bowls under his belt in that time. He wasn’t the only Bear injured during the match. Tight end Desmond Clark also suffered a back injury that took him out of the game, left guard Frank Omiyale has a sprained ankle and linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa has a knee injury. Word is not yet in about how each will be limited. See the Bears live with Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.
